Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

with the help and support of the JMSE editorial staff, we would like to announce a new special issue entitled Coastal development, vulnerability assessment and engineering solutions and we announce the call for papers. This special issue will be formed of 3 parts as follows:

Part A. Coastal Development part welcomes papers related to the effects of specific coastal development works and especially their long-term time series of change on the coastal environment (diversity, quality, ecology etc.), ecosystem services quality and quantity, society and economy:

  • tourism, including carrying capacity
  • coastal defenses
  • beach nourishment
  • urbanization
  • coastal aggregate mining
  • migration including social analyses, demography, gender issues, job and income security
  • ports including marinas and fishing refuges
  • coastal industrial infrastructure
  • transportation seaways including river inlet
  • alien species effects

It is also of special interest to receive papers focusing on the effects of coastal development on the biogeography of Insular States and Archipelagos.

Part B. Vulnerability assessment part welcomes papers related to assessment methods and results regarding the vulnerability of coastal zones from climate change and direct anthropogenic actions and economic activities. Special interest for this issue will be methodological papers and papers related to vulnerability indicators suitable for the assessment and management of anthropogenic and climate externalities for the coastal zone environmental and socioeconomic status. We also welcome mathematical and/or statistical models related to the assessment of vulnerability.

Part C. Engineering solutions part welcomes papers focusing on overall coast as well specific coastal ecotope's defense works – both theoretical and already applied – and their expected benefits to the coastal zone. These papers need to be very detailed in relation to the engineering aspect (designs, plans, cutaways, 2D/3D drafting, materials including dimensioning data and if needed, the special construction methods). Also, it will be of interest to include the problems encountered and the engineering solutions to them.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Marine Science and Engineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
