Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Cardiovascular disease remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, taking an estimated 17.9 million lives each year. The majority of cardiovascular related-deaths are due to acute coronary syndromes and strokes, and one third of these deaths occur prematurely in people under 70 years of age. Hypertension, diabetes, lipids and smoking remain the major modifiable cardiovascular risk factors. In the last few years, new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies have been identified to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular events. Low-income and high-income countries need specific approaches. This Special Issue aims to highlight the progress achieved in this field, reporting novel approaches in the risk stratification and prevention of cardiovascular disease and treatment. Reviews and original articles will be collected to discuss the main trends and perspectives related to the basic mechanisms, clinical diagnosis, treatment and risk stratification of cardiovascular disease. The submission of manuscripts on open questions in this area of research is also encouraged.
