Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Internet of Vehicles (IoVs) is rapidly emerging as a transformative force in the realm of transportation, creating a promising future where vehicles are no longer isolated entities but integral components of a connected ecosystem. At its core, the IoVs envisions a dynamic network of vehicles seamlessly communicating with each other, traffic infrastructure, pedestrians, and the broader transportation grid. This interconnectedness, made possible by wireless communication technologies, is ushering in an era of intelligent mobility, safety enhancement, and unparalleled convenience. Wireless communication stands as the linchpin of the IoVs, serving as the conduit through which information flows, decisions are made, and actions are executed. The deployment of wireless communication technologies in vehicles, collectively known as Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication, has far-reaching implications for the automotive industry and society as a whole.

The aim of this Special Issue is to gather outstanding research papers with a dedicated focus on the utilization of wireless communication technologies within the IoVs, and to create a scholarly platform that unites researchers and experts from both academic and industrial domains, enabling them to share their pioneering insights and contributions related to wireless communication in the context of the IoVs. Specifically, it solicits novel approaches encompassing architectures, protocols, theoretical frameworks, and advanced algorithms that harness the power of wireless communication to enhance and optimize the Internet of Vehicles.

Topics of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:

  • V2X Communication Protocols: Investigating the latest advancements in V2X communication protocols, including 5G, cellular V2X (C-V2X), and dedicated short-range communication (DSRC).
  • Wireless Network Optimization: Delving into advanced techniques for optimizing wireless networks to meet the stringent demands of the IoVs, including low-latency, high-reliability communication.
  • Security and Privacy: Analyzing strategies and state-of-the-art solutions aimed at ensuring the robust security and privacy of wireless communication within IoVs networks.
  • Spectrum Management: Discussing innovative spectrum allocation and management strategies that accommodate the escalating requirements of IoVs communication.
  • Energy-Efficient Communication: Exploring energy-efficient wireless communication solutions for the IoVs to extend the battery life of connected vehicles and reduce their environmental footprint.
  • Vehicular Edge Computing: Investigating the role of edge computing in the IoVs to offload computation tasks from vehicles, reduce latency, and enhance real-time decision making.
  • New applications and use cases: Proposing novel and future use cases witihn the IoV framework, with the aim of investigating the performance of wireless communications fort he forthcoming vehicular applications.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
