Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue on maternal and child health will focus on nutrition and metabolic adaptations during pregnancy as its central theme and its effect on maternal and offspring health. Original research findings from all phases of translational research, ranging from epidemiological to experimental and biological models (e.g., epigenome, microbiome) will be considered for publication. Articles can also be reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, opinion pieces, or short communications on current recommendations on nutrition during pregnancy.

According to the developmental origins of health and disease hypothesis, most conditions that occur in adulthood originate in fetal life. Adequate macro- and micronutrient intake in pregnancy and according to the pregnancy metabolic demands is crucial for the maternal–fetal health status and subsequent growth of offspring.

Submissions on all aspects of maternal health during pregnancy and biological alterations during pregnancy in response to nutrients, particularly those with an impact on child health after delivery, are encouraged. Concerning child health, we will give preference to original research on prenatal nutritional factors that may influence the development of chronic disease in children.
