Dear Colleagues,
Coronary artery disease and cancer are two of the most common and potentially fatal conditions, which also share several risk factors such as age, smoking, alcohol use, and obesity. One can expect, therefore, that both disease should appear regularly in the same patient, either simultaneously or consecutively. The treatment of these patients can be very challenging.
For this reason, we invite you to contribute a Special Issue of Healthcare, which is an interdisciplinary journal with respect to disease prevention, early diagnosis, advanced medical diagnostic procedures, and comprehensive treatment strategies.
In this Special Issue, original articles as well as reviews are welcome and research areas may include, but are not limited, to the following topics:
- Epidemiologic data, with respect to age, gender, and socioeconomic status;
- Specific predictors for coronary artery disease in cancer patients (and vice versa);
- Screening tools, diagnostic procedures, and treatment options for CAD in cancer survivors, especially with respect to anticoagulation and antithrombotic protocols;
- Surgical and medical treatment options for coincidental cancer in cardiac patients, especially when heart surgery is necessary in the short-term;
- Common mechanisms of the occurrence of cancer and coronary artery disease (inflammation and exosomes).
