Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The field of endodontics is undergoing a rapid transformation, marked by the introduction of innovative techniques and tools. This quiet revolution is challenging long-standing practices that have held sway for decades. Those involved in dental education are well aware that the principles taught in dental schools, such as those regarding access cavity preparation, canal shaping, irrigation, and obturation, often deviate from current clinical practices.

While the advantages of some innovations are clear in terms of patient benefits, there remains uncertainty surrounding whether some shifts are driven by commercial interests rather than solid scientific evidence. Therefore, there is an urgent need for rigorous scientific studies that either support or refute many of the innovations gaining popularity among clinicians, with the ultimate goal of ensuring the best possible treatment outcomes for patients.

One crucial aspect that warrants attention is education. The emphasis on cultivating competent endodontists should go hand in hand with clinical research. The benefits to the population stemming from the introduction of safer and more effective techniques are only realized when adequate tools are provided to disseminate knowledge effectively.

This Special Issue aims to gather valuable scientific contributions from researchers worldwide, with the objective of enhancing evidence-based practice and education.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Minimally invasive endodontics;
  • Irrigant activation techniques;
  • Bioactive endodontic cements;
  • Endodontic microbiology;
  • Vital pulp therapy;
  • Regenerative endodontics;
  • Micro-surgical endodontics;
  • Use of 3D technologies in endodontics;
  • Guided endodontics;
  • Pre-clinical and clinical training;
  • Undergraduate endodontic curriculum;
  • Learning assessment.
