Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Low physical activity (PA) levels and increased sedentary behavior have become major public health concerns worldwide due to their association with overweight and obesity. Besides their relationship with the risk of hypertension, coronary heart disease, and type 2 diabetes, among others, the detrimental effects of overweight and obesity on physical fitness have also been reported. Indeed, the exponential growth in technology has been explored as a potential source of fostering physical activity (PA), particularly through exergames, videogames that demand PA to play. Evidence from previous research has shown that exergaming can generate health benefits, such as improving PA, weight loss, cognitive abilities, and providing enhanced enjoyment. However, despite the potential benefits, there are several gaps in knowledge regarding exergaming and its effects on physical and cognitive components, namely in the long term. Therefore, this Special Issue aims to provide new insights into this topic.
