Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The cognitive radio idea was developed by Joe Mitola in early 2000, where the concept of cognition in network nodes was introduced. The cognitive radio concept lead to the development of cognitive networking techniques, where the cognition process is introduced in different entities and protocol stacks to improve the efficiency of network resource allocation techniques. The cognitive networking architecture is considered as one of the main enabling technique for the dynamic spectrum allocation algorithms in shared networked environments. The cognition processes in advanced networking systems have evolved gradually enabling the intelligent entities within the network to extract various operating information through learning processes to appropriately adapt the network to its operating environment. Cognitive networking solutions are finding their applications in many emerging ICT (Information Communication Technology) sectors including advanced sensor networks, IoT (Internet of Things), autonomous networked systems, Cyber Physical Systems, Advanced Software Defined networks, and many other advanced distributed applications. Emerging networked and distributed applications require flexible network architectures to enhance the quality of service of different applications, where cognitive techniques will play key roles. Development of cognitive networking solutions for emerging applications require multi-disciplinary research efforts. This Special Issue is inviting researchers to submit their original research contributions for peer review and future publication. We are soliciting research contributions in the following and related areas.

  • Cognitive network architecture
  • Cognitive network resource allocation techniques

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Future Internet is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
