Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Connecting billions of devices, the Internet of Things (IoT) has brought us into a new era of ubiquitous computing, sensing, and communication. While a great number of distributed IoT sensors demonstrate great potential in a variety of applications, generating sustainable power supply for these sensors is challenge, since chemical batteries require regular maintenance or replacement. Therefore, developing battery-free technologies for IoT sensors will pave the way for the future innovation of IoT systems. This trajectory calls for the development of various technologies, including energy harvesting, low-power IoT sensors, low-power computing and communication algorithms, efficient power management methods, emerging IoT applications, etc. However, challenges are emerging in the above technology areas. Advanced technologies must be created to address sustainable power supply issues related to IoT sensors.

This Special Issue aims to highlight the advances in cutting-edge technologies that may enable battery-free IoT sensors and systems in the future. Original and review articles discussing the latest research into battery-free IoT sensors are welcome. The focus of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Energy harvesting systems for IoT sensors;
  • Theoretical modeling of energy harvesting systems;
  • Low-power and efficient interfaces or power management circuits;
  • Novel IoT sensors for battery-free IoT systems;
  • Wireless-sensor networks;
  • Intelligence algorithms for IoT applications;
  • Low-power computing and communication methods for IoT systems;
  • Applications of battery-free IoT sensors.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
