Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the Special Issue entitled “Biomolecules in Neuroinflammation”.

Neuroinflammation is one of the most important biological processes involved in the pathogenesis of numerous neurological disorders. The current concept of neuroinflammation includes an inflammatory process, which occurs in the central nervous system (CNS) due to mediators released from brain-resident glia and/or blood-derived immune cells.

In addition to their role in brain homeostasis and neuroplasticity, glial cells play an essential role in modulating the brain's response to external and internal stresses and controlling neuroinflammation. However, the detailed role of acute/chronic neuroinflammation in different neuropathologic conditions is only beginning to be understood and is the subject of this Special Issue.

This Special Issue aims to explore the role of glia and/or immune-cell-derived inflammatory mediators in neuronal function through the pathogenesis of wide-ranging CNS disorders. The manuscripts included in this Issue will help to inspire new thinking about the similarities and differences between acute/chronic neuroinflammation signaling in pathologic conditions and lend insight into ways that these signals could be targeted therapeutically. We seek to publish novel research and reflect the most recent advances on the latest contributions in the above areas, covering new signaling pathways and therapeutic approaches, as well as innovative review articles. This Special Issue should be of benefit to researchers worldwide, wherever there is a need to overcome challenges and strive for novel drug breakthroughs towards an era of neuroinflammatory disorders.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Brain tumors and brain cancer
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Huntington’s disease
  • Multiple sclerosis and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
  • Brain ischemia and spinal cord injury
  • Neuropsychiatric and Neurodevelopmental disorder
  • Other neuroinflammatory disorders

I look forward to receiving your contributions. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biomolecules is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
