Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Currently, with the aim of reducing dependence on fossil resources, progress is being made in the development of polymeric materials from natural resources. On the other hand, the incorporation of new phases or reinforcements to matrices is giving rise to a wide range of new biocomposites with improved properties with an application range from the automotive industry, aeronautics, and prototyping to medicine, dentistry, or packaging. In this area, the environmental implications of the processes are of great relevance, then the use of residues in the synthesis of biocomposites and the studies of life cycle assessment (LCA) of the processes and products obtained are of great interest.

For these reasons, researchers are invited to contribute review articles as well as original papers that will stimulate advances in knowledge related to biopolymers and biocomposites and their environmental implications. Potential topics for this issue include (but are not limited to)

  • Synthesis processes and development of new biopolymers and biocomposites;
  • Waste valorization in the formulation of biocomposites;
  • Biocomposites reinforced with synthetic/natural filling;
  • Applications of new formulations in different sectors (automotive, aeronautical, prototyping, medicine, dentistry or packaging);
  • Evaluation of properties of biopolymers and biocomposites (mechanical, thermal, optical, bactericide, compatibility, etc.);
  • Simulation of processes and materials;
  • Environmental impact assessments of synthesis and manufacturing processes;
  • Life cycle assessment of processes and products.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Bioengineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
