Section Information

Human Computer Interaction (HCI) is a multidisciplinary field of research on the design of modern computers and the interaction between computers and their users. Starting with the idea of designing user-friendly computer interfaces, modern HCI covers all parts of information technology design today. Computer science, multimedia technologies, human factors, cognitive science, behavioral science, affective computing, and many other fields of research are contributing to modern HCI technologies and research.

Interaction between a computer and the human user should be as intuitive as possible, and the interaction should be similar to a conservation or interaction between humans, meaning the computer should not be just a useful technical tool: it should be more of a companion who is informed about the users’ state and needs. Therefore, in addition to designing all the technical hardware and software technologies,  building comprehensive user models and understanding how users interact with computers are major tasks of HCI.
