Special Issue Information

Dear  Colleagues,

The brushless doubly fed machine (BDFM) has received considerable interest as a variable speed generator or drive because only a fraction of the output power needs to pass through the power converter. The absence of brush-gear and slip-rings makes the machine particularly attractive as a wind turbine generator because brush-gear and slip-ring problems in the widely used doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) have been identified as a principal failure mode.

Recent research on several types of the BDFM, such as the brushless doubly-fed induction machine (BDFIM), brushless doubly-fed reluctance machine (BDFRM), brushless doubly-fed twin stator machine and cascaded brushless doubly-fed machines, has led to significant improvement in the design and operation of the machine. Several large scale BDFMs have also been built, including a recently demonstrated 800 kW BDFM for hydropower generation.

This special issue aims to publish a collection of most recent research findings in the field of BDFM research, as well as review articles that examine the state of development in any particular field related to BDFM research. All articles will be published as ‘open access’, thus there will be great potential for exposure of your research to a wider research community. Please note that papers will be published as they are accepted.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Mechanics is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
