Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This cooperative Special Issue, conducted in collaboration with the International Conference "Sustainable Development of European Smart Cities" 2023 within the project "European Smart Cities for Sustainable Development" (SmartEU) (Jean Monnet Project no. 20415-EPP-1-2020-1-RO-EPPJMO-MODULE financed within the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union) (2020-2023), presents a platform for original research in sustainable development and smart cities. More details at: http://smarteu.uaic.ro/Pages/Start.aspx.

We welcome researchers and practitioners working in smart cities, smart governance and smart education, and the emergence of IoT and “smart” capabilities of electronic sensors, etc., to submit their original and unpublished works to this Special Issue.

The sustainable development of European smart cities is a topic of growing importance as urbanization continues. The integration of advanced technologies and algorithms is crucial for the development of smart cities that are efficient, livable, and environmentally sustainable. This Special Issue aims to explore the role of algorithms in the sustainable development of European smart cities.

Algorithms have the potential to revolutionize urban planning, infrastructure management, and resource allocation. They can help optimize energy consumption, reduce waste generation, and improve transportation systems. Moreover, algorithms can be used to analyze data from various sources, including sensors, social media, and citizen feedback, to provide insights into urban challenges and opportunities.

This Special Issue welcomes submissions on topics related to the sustainable development of European smart cities using algorithms, including but not limited to: algorithmic optimization of urban systems, data analytics for urban planning and management, citizen engagement and participation using algorithms, and ethical considerations of algorithmic decision-making in smart cities. The goal is to provide a platform for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to share their insights and experiences on how algorithms can contribute to sustainable urban development in Europe.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Algorithms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
