Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The world's agricultural land area is ca. 5 billion hectares, accounting for 38% of the world's land area. Nearly 80 % of this arable land is located in arid and semi-arid regions, which contribute 60% to world food production. In the context of climate change and increased natural disasters, agriculture in these regions is facing major challenges such as the depletion of natural resources, water scarcity, frequent droughts and agroecosystem degradation.

Therefore, improving the efficient utilization of farmland resources in arid and semi-arid regions has become an urgent priority to ensure the world’s food supply and security. Additionally, plans and strategies for sustainable agricultural management practices (such as straw mulching, no tillage, intercropping rotation, the efficient utilization of water and fertilizer, the application of green manure and organic fertilizers, etc.) need to be vigorously promoted.

This Special Issue aims to highlight influential research and commentaries, with a focus on how to improve the current understanding of the efficient utilization of farmland resources for the promotion of sustainable agriculture in arid and semi-arid regions. This Special Issue will fully embrace inter- and trans-disciplinary studies from multiple disciplines (e.g., agricultural sciences, soil sciences, and environmental sciences) in the co-construction of knowledge for arid and semi-arid agriculture. Research papers and comprehensive review articles on any aspect below, related to the topic, are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agriculture is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
