Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Τhe presented review provides an extensive overview of sustainability in microbial lipids production by oleaginous yeasts through agro-byproducts. The manuscript is well written, clear to understand, and gives a good insight into the potential of the specific bioprocess. It will be very favorable for the scientific community as an important summary contribution.

My only remark concerns Figure 1, for which the authors should indicate either the appropriated citing literature or a note that is their own design.

This paper is prepared accordingly to Microorganisms, in these terms, I recommend acceptance of the manuscript in the present version.

Point 1: My only remark concerns Figure 1, for which the authors should indicate either the appropriated citing literature or a note that is their own design.

Response 1: We added in the caption of figure 1 the references which was useful for designing this figure.

Reviewer 2 Report

This is an interesting review manuscript about ''Oleaginous yeasts as cell factory for sustainable production of microbial lipids by the valorization of agri-food wastes''. This paper is important from a scientific and general perspective because it shows new ways by which we can value agri-food waste.

Topic of the manuscript falls within the scope of the journal. Work is planned on a scientific basis, but some issues need to be solved prior to publication. I recommend to adding a graphical abstract to better understand the manuscript. English must be improved.

The title reflects the manuscript content.

Abstract reflects manuscript content. All relevant parts of the manuscript are summarised. Keywords are well-chosen, as well.

References
Quite a high number of references.
