Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper shows an experimental setup to control SHG in a solid-state laser. The control method that the authors use is well known to stabilize chaotic systems. It's interesting how they demonstrate that the efficiency of the system can be increased by applying this control method.

After thoroughly reading the paper, I have a few comments in order to improve its clarity.  In general, the paper is well written and needs minor language corrections.

I recommend the following:

1. The abstract is confusing. In general, the sentences are too long. The authors should break down their ideas into smaller and more concise sentences. The first sentence should be something like "In this paper we demonstrate how to improve the efficiency while stabilizing .... "

2. In line 80, I think the authors meant to say the envelopes of the electromagnetic wave instead of the involved amplitudes.

3. The sentence in lines 81 and 82 should say something like: Substituting equation 3) into the second term of equation 2) ...

4. The explanation of figure 4 is not clear. The authors should discuss this figure in more detail. The authors sometimes forget to put italics in Vpp. This makes it confusing and difficult to understand if they are talking about the modulating amplitude or the LD emission. Perhaps the authors would like to give a different name to the LD emission.

5. It is not clear if they are using a modulation frequency in the results shown in Figure 7. Is figure 7 still part of the experiment of the results shown in figure 6? It is confusing because in line 154 they talk about the modulation amplitude range but forget to mention what happens with fm.

6. In line 162 they say that the experimental arrange is shown in Figure 9, but Figure 9 shows frequency spectrum maps.

7.  In figure 10 it would be interesting if the authors showed a time series when the laser is stable.

8. In line 177 I think the authors meant to say frequency locking instead of frequency looking

9. In line 178 it should be these instead of this.

Overall, the paper shows very interesting results in a problem that has baffled the scientific community interested in laser dynamics.

Reviewer 2 Report

In the present manuscript entitled “High efficiency and high stability for SHG in a Nd : YVO4 laser with a KTP intracavity and Q-switching through harmonic modulation”, the authors study the harmonic modulation and modulation frequency to stabilize the emission and obtain a high conversion efficiency. I would like to recommend the publication with the following minor corrections:

1.     Give a more detailed overview of the results in [2-7] (str. 17), [10-19] (str. 26), [27-31] (str. 54)

2.     Add literature for the next 5 years to the introduction

3.     Fig. 7 should be divided into 2 graphs because the top right graph is too small

Round 2

Reviewer 3 Report

I confirm that the text has been significantly improved.

I would suggest, however, to make small corrections:

In the line 111 “generate” is ought to be replaced by “allows to generate”

In the line 223 “relajation” is ought to be replaced by “relaxation”

In the line 238 “calculate” is ought to be replaced by “calculated”

Sincerely,

Reviewer
