I was pleased to read the research article entitled Investigations of lithium-ion battery thermal management system with hybrid PCM/liquid cooling plate.

 

The article is well written and discusses an intriguing topic. There is a great need for this study. However, there are some issues that need to be addressed.

 

Abstracts should contain a concise description of the purpose and implications of the study.

In the introduction, the study's context and objectives should be clearly stated. After analyzing the previous studies, it is necessary to narrow the research gap. 

The literature review needs to be improved. To identify the research gap correctly, it is recommended that the authors rewrite the literature.

 

Despite being relevant to the study, the findings have not been adequately discussed, nor have they been supported by significant and recent literature. Additionally, it is recommended that you support your findings with the most recent research articles. The authors are advised to read recent and relevant publications.

 

There are some problems with English grammar and writing. A professional proofreader is recommended for the authors.

Point 1: Abstracts should contain a concise description of the purpose and implications of the study

 

Response 1: Thank you for your professional comments and suggestions on the abstracts.We have revised the abstract to emphasize the purpose of the article as you requested. It is emphasized that the purpose of this paper is to ensure the safety of electric vehicles, improve the performance of large capacity battery pack during continuous charge and discharge, and prevent its thermal runaway.

 

Point 2:In the introduction, the study's context and objectives should be clearly stated. After analyzing the previous studies, it is necessary to narrow the research gap.

 

Response 2: Thank you very much for your advice. We rearranged the paragraph arrangement, and emphasized the research background and objectives in the introduction more clearly. We introduced the background from a variety of single battery cooling systems to the composite cooling system studied in this paper more gradually.

This manuscript have been reported that battery thermal management system with hybrid PCM/liquid cooling plate on 6PX16S LIB module using micro-channel methodology. The heat transfer and thermal management of large-scale battery modules have been measured. It is interesting to identify the hybrid PCM/liquid cooling system for enhancing battery thermal management. I would like to recommend it to be published in this journal in this form.

Point 1: This manuscript have been reported that battery thermal management system with hybrid PCM/liquid cooling plate on 6PX16S LIB module using micro-channel methodology. The heat transfer and thermal management of large-scale battery modules have been measured. ·         Line 9: The authors may change the word composite into hybrid

·         Line 11: The authors used the word composite PCM, no where they explained about How the composite PCM has been prepared and What are the PCMs combined and What are their properties and How the properties has been improved. Address all the above questions.

·         Line 18-21: Kindly simply the sentence. It is very hard to read.

·         Line 28: Change the word fuel vehicles into fossil fuel vehicle.

·         In introduction part, references (i.e citations) are more generic, it should be specific. Eg: in line no: 48: The results show that PCM can achieve a good cooling effect. What is the result without PCM and How much % of heat reduction after using PCM. Likewise, discuss the outcome of each reference.

·         What is the novelty of the present study? Because already some works are thereby combining PCM and liquid cooling plates.

 

·         Overall language should be improved. Most of the sentences are complex. Make it as simple as possible.

Response 1: Thanks for your suggestion, we have adjusted the word “composite” to “hybrid” according to your requirements.

 

Point 2: Line 11: The authors used the word composite PCM, no where they explained about How the composite PCM has been prepared and What are the PCMs combined and What are their properties and How the properties has been improved. Address all the above questions.

 

Response 2: Thanks for your advice, the actual explanation of composite PCM is posted on line 501-506. Here is our explanation of composite PCM.This paper cites the composite PCM material prepared by previous scholars [14], who impregnated the phase change material into the graphite matrix through capillary action and surface tension phenomenon.

Impregnation encapsulation is one of the effective ways of encapsulation, which allows the phase change material to remain solid during the solid-liquid phase transformation process without causing leakage.Because the graphite matrix has the advantages of high porosity, low density, high thermal conductivity and no chemical reaction, it can improve the thermal conductivity of phase change materials, improve the heat transfer process of phase change and prevent leakage. And because of its internal structure, it provides a porous medium for encapsulating PCM. Compared with composite PCM, the thermal conductivity of pure paraffin increased from 0.24 W·M-1K-1 to 16.6 W·M-1K-1, which alleviated the low thermal conductivity and leakage problems of pure paraffin.

Point 6: What is the novelty of the present study? Because already some works are thereby combining PCM and liquid cooling plates.

 

Response 6: The novelty of the present study is as followings: 1. The battery selected in this paper is 21700 cylindrical battery, which is mainly used in Tesla and other famous electric vehicle enterprises. At present, most previous researches on the combination of PCM and liquid cooling plate are pouch cell, and there are few researches on this 21700 battery. 2. In this paper, the channel in the liquid cooling plate is connected to the bottom plate to further cool the bottom plate by taking advantage of the factor of the high axial thermal conductivity of the lithium battery, which has not been conducted previously. 3. At present, there are few researches on the reliability and sustainability of the cooling system for the continuous charging and discharging of the large-capacity battery pack. The present work filled in this gap.
