Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear authors,

The work provides a holistic view on Asparagus officinalis, both in terms of history, cultivation, and biochemistry. As this vegetable crop is becoming more important worldwide, further research on the intrinsic metabolite composition and associated health, flavour, and fragrance attributes is indeed highly desired. In this context, this review presents an interesting state-of-the art.

I strongly appreciate the content of the review and only have some minor remarks. As a primary suggestion, it would be designated to improve the 'scientific' value of the manuscript by omitting a few more anecdotical statements and expressions. This and other comments can be found in the attached document.

Reviewer 2 Report

In my opinion, the manuscript has a significant contribution to the research subject. Hence, I recommend publishing the manuscript in the Metabolites journal. However, minor corrections of English language and style are required.

Thank you very much for your feedback and comment.

A recheck of the English has been done and hopefully, the manuscript is now meeting al requirements for acceptance.
