Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper investigated variable modulation-decision-directed least mean square (VM-DDLMS) algorithm. The algorithm is also verified in the hardware platform. My comments are as follows:

  1. The channel equalization convergence curve is required to investigate the convergence speed of the algorithm;
  2. The receoverd constellation points are also required;
  3. Why choosing parallel 11-order equalization, nor other number of orders?
  4. How the BER is calculated? Is it the transmitting bit long enough to calculate tbe BER as low as 1e-6?

This paper has been examined in detail. The work is more of a teaching-related attempt carried out in software, based on technical material that can be found in textbooks of digital/wireless communications. Thus, this work has not provided any novel insight into the investigated area(s) and there has been already an ocean of literature on different and related systems and wireless design frameworks. Though, the work might be suitable to be submitted/presented as a conference proceeding.

The paper tries to solve an interesting problem, however the quality of the presentation needs improvement. Please elaborate more in the introduction about the importance of the algorithm you are trying to solve and what is the novelty of this paper.

Additionally:

line 5-8: please list and fix your affiliations. The first and second author may share the same affiliation (you have to list it), but not the email. It is recommended also to use an email with the authors' name, so readers of your work can contact you more easily for questions.

line 128&130 please be consistent with the μ (mu) character you are using.

In Eq. (13) I think there is something wrong with your equation after the "?".

Figure. 5: Which three algorithms are you comparing? The reader might be confused so it is a good idea to list them on the caption

line 265: correct "is almost no increase compared".

line 269-280: Please add your information to these lines, do not just copy the template....

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

The revised version of the paper has addressed the main points and may proceed with the publication process. A final English check should be conducted to ensure the text is meeting all essential writing standards.

I still believe that the novelty of this work could be improved, but nevertheless the authors improved the article significantly.

The capitalization in the names of the first two authors might be incorrect.

I think they still use  different font in lines 130-132 for μ .
