Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript is interesting are deserved being published. The manuscript will gain attractiveness by comparing the mechanical (compressive) properties with published data frim the literature. For example:

Al-Ketan, Oraib; Abu Al-Rub, Rashid K.; Rowshan, Reza (2018). The effect of architecture on the mechanical properties of cellular structures based on the IWP minimal surface. Journal of Materials Research, (), 1–17. doi:10.1557/jmr.2018.1

The authors will be asked to consider the following remarks.

Abstract

Could the authors define the relative elastic modulus?

Introduction

line 88 : IWP structure should be further explained: I-WP Schoen's minimum surface and the reference (24) should become (18).

Finite element analysis

lines 288-290: 'The elastic-plastic model was assigned to TPMS structure, and material’s properties are set as follows: elastic modulus is 187 GPa, Poisson’s ratio is 0.3, and yield strength is 458 MPa.' Elastic-plastic behaviour with only information about the yield strength : the reader deduces that the authors assume an elastic and perfectly plastic behaviour, i.e., no hardening, isn't it?

Anisotropy of IWP

line 481: '...2PI/2...' It might rather be 2PI/3, isn't it.

Compressive properties

Could the authors plot the stress-strain data shown in Fig.10(b) with the same scale as the Fig.10(a)?

The authors could present the mechanical properties in term of relative stress (stress/relative density)?

Could the authors try to compare their results with results published in the literature?

English

line 39 : '... and studied its properties.' What do the authors mean?

line 49 : 'larger' (r is missing)

line 56 : '...the mechanical properties of TPMS was controlled by the number of cycles of gradient 56 function.' What do the authors want to explain?

lines 139-140 : 'Set the rotation axis to vector v=(vx,vy,vz), i.e. crystal orientation [x y z], rotation angle to θ (right-hand rule rotation).' This sentence does not have a verb!?!

lines 164-165 : '...the Gyroid structure is a body-centered cubic lattice knot.' Knot is probably not necessary!?!

lines 186-187 : 'When the direction of the rotation axis changes, according to the crystal orientation 186 of the axis, adjust the parameters of the "axis" in the MATLAB design code.' What do the authors want to say?

Comments regarding potential enhancement of the text were made in the Comments to authors.

Reviewer 2 Report

I found this article interesting but a bit heavy to read.

The manuscript requires future optimization of the results presentation.

The abstract should clearly and concisely state what is done and why it might be important for progress in the area. It should be completely rewritten.

Introduction: The authors introduce "Functionally graded material" in the first sentence and refer to articles, that are devoted to biological materials. However, they focused on inorganic materials, in particular diamond. So, the list of literature with references dedicated to inorganic systems has to be added. Also, a difference between high-entropy inorganic materials and functionally graded materials should be commented on.

I would like to propose skipping Tables 2–5. The same pictures are presented in Figs. 1,3,5,7.  Corresponding chapters have to be rearranged as well.

The article needs a major revision.

The article has good results, but materials doubled in some parts. The manuscript has to be shortened to exclude doubling.

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript is really improved.  A few minor things still have to be clarified.

Line 43: Remore (TPMS), the abbreviation is already made in the Abstract section.

Line 45. Introduce wording for IWP abbreviation.

Chapter 3.3. Change Anisotropy of Primitive   by Anisotropy of Primitive Structure

Author Response

Dear Reviewer:

Thank you for your kind comments on our article “Study the anisotropy of triply periodic minimal surface porous structures” in Coatings (Manuscript ID: coatings-2468487). We appreciate your valuable comments and suggestions for improvement. For your comments and suggestions, our reply is as follows:

1.Line 43: Remore (TPMS), the abbreviation is already made in the Abstract section.

Response: Thank you for your suggestion, the abbreviation of TPMS in the introduction section has been deleted.

2.Line 45. Introduce wording for IWP abbreviation.

Response: The full name of IWP has been added in the abstract section.

I-graph-Wrapped Package graph surface (IWP), and the full name of IWP structure was mentioned in this literature.
