A Reversible Hydropump–Turbine System
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Water pumped storage system is an ideal alternative to regulate the intermittent power delivered by renewable energy sources. The present study can be beneficial to the design of the water pumped storage system. The manuscript cannot be accepted to publish with its present form. Some specific comments are given as follows.
1. The novelty of the present study should be described with more details.
2. More references on the water pumped storage system can be added.
3. The important results should be presented in the abstract.
4. The meanings of the symbols in the equations should be presented.
5. It is better to add a picture to show the water pumped storage system.
6. It is necessary to show the source of the equations in this study.

Please note which simulation software have been used and give necessary information about the simulation.
1. The main contribution of this work is connected to a generalization of the energy Hamiltonian modelling approach of a reversible hydro pump-turbine system.
2. Topic is original and mainly theoretical approach which is proved by simulation, but no practical test and measurement !!!
3. What does it add to the subject area compared with other published material? Partly according to my knowledge.
4. nonlinear passivity-based and trajectory-tracking control strategies are used in this mathematical model, but not explained how they can be practically implemented in a real drive system
That means that paper have no model validation by testing its operation in a real system.
5. Are the conclusions consistent with the evidence and arguments presented and do they address the main question posed? yes.
6. Are the references appropriate? yes.
7. no additional comments to the tables. Fig6. Better to be written: mechanical energy, not hydraulic energy is converted into electrical energy.
