Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

1.All pictures are not very clear, please adjust the format

2.This content is a research and investigation report, without new means, techniques, and methods. There is no new innovative work in the article, only a summary of the different results generated by daily work methods.

3.The format of references is almost always incorrect.

1.There are many syntax error in the article, please use present tense or past tense.

Author Response

  1. All pictures are not very clear, please adjust the format

- We have increased the quality of all pictures.

  1. This content is a research and investigation report, without new means, techniques, and methods. There is no new innovative work in the article, only a summary of the different results generated by daily work methods.

- This paper is the summarization of the usage of the IDM methodology for impact detection with a larger dataset, and the results gained highlighted new problem areas, which previously were not seen. This paper is intended to be Article type: Communication.

  1. The format of references is almost always incorrect.

- We have newly formatted the paper according to the template of the journal and used the official citation ACS Style Guide (Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute).

Reviewer 2 Report

This paper researches on the impact effect when crane lowers the spreader on the ship towards the container. In my opinion, the topic of this paper is interesting. There are some issues should be addressed.

(1)    Lables ‘Mean velocity’ of Figure 6 to Figure 8 should be moved away from the axises.

(2)    Conclusions in Figure 9 to Figure 15 mainly depend on simple observation. Are there any methods can help to further prove the conclusions?

(3)    Compare Figure 4 and Figure 5, it is seen the accelerations in Figure 5 from 3.8s to the end are not that matching with corresponding contents in Figure 4. Can authors clearly explain the reason for the changes in accelerations in Figure 5?

Author Response

1. Lables ‘Mean velocity’ of Figure 6 to Figure 8 should be moved away from the axises.

- The figures were corrected.

2. Conclusions in Figure 9 to Figure 15 mainly depend on simple observation. Are there any methods can help to further prove the conclusions?

- Additional quantitative evaluations were added.

3. Compare Figure 4 and Figure 5, it is seen the accelerations in Figure 5 from 3.8s to the end are not that matching with corresponding contents in Figure 4. Can authors clearly explain the reason for the changes in accelerations in Figure 5?

- New improved explanation was added to the paper.

Reviewer 3 Report

Marine containers are constantly damaged during simple handling, transport and storage procedures with external natural influences. Therefore, it is necessary to study them in order to reduce the risk of damage to these containers and, implicitly, to the merchandise stored in them. The reviewed paper (Manuscript ID: machines-2400710) titled: “Statistical Evaluation of the Impacts Detection Methodology (IDM) to Detect Critical Damage Occurrences During Quay Cranes Handling Operations” approaches a study in order to detect the impacts occurred during the transportation of the marine containers using an IDM (Impact Detection Methodology).

Abstract corresponds to the manuscript content and future research directions are correct and understandable to the reader.

In my opinion, the topic is very interesting and the results of this paper are useful for the researchers for mechanical applications, simple and intuitive, which can contribute more easily to the understanding of the basic principles in the field of maritime transportation.

Some suggestions are needed - see _Reviewer_Machines_PAPER_#2400710_1.pdf

  1. The type of the paper (Article, Review, Communication etc.) is not indicated. Also, the information from the left part of the paper (according to the template) and the footer are missing. - Suggestion: it is recommended to follow the template instructions and add these elements.

- Template was used and corrections were made.

  1. The word ”Correspondence” from line 9 appears twice - please remove it.

- Corrected.

- Template was used.

  1. According to the template instructions, all figures and tables should be cited in the main text as Figure 1, Table 1 etc. Therefore, please modify ”F” instead of ”f” in the text on line 250 as follows: ”....results, Figure 16 shows ....”.

- Corrected.

  1. Some figures are written with one text style, others with another style. For example, the text in Figure 2 is with Arial, while the text in Figures 3-17 is with Times New Roman.
