Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors reviewed the photo responsive polymer nanoparticles, the mechanism of photo responsivity and the method for preparation of these responsive materials. They focused on the functionalization process of chemical aspects and practical examples and discussed the near-infrared responsive nanoscale drug delivery systems, and assessed the challenging and future perspectives of developing photo-responsive carriers in controlled drug delivery application in detail. The manuscript was well written and the contents is interesting for readers. Therefore, the work can be published in Polymers as a review in the present form.

Reviewer 2 Report

-The current work focuses on Review Advances in Functionalized Photosensitive Polymeric Nanocarriers. Authors make great effort on the review, but minor issues should be addressed.

The review has a lot and important information but the main issue is the review is not well organizing it should be divided into subchapters, not like bulk content. So please reorganize it to be attractive to the reader.

In the Introduction section:

- Line 24-26 needs citations

- Line38-39 needs citations

- Line64-66 needs citations

- Line188-192 needs citations

- Line 254, (Robertson et al., 1990; Klussmann 2006), where full citation in the reference section

- Subchapter should be inserted related to biocompatibility and biodegradability, which is very important for Photosensitive Polymeric Nanocarriers.

- Line 881-977, This section Characterization of photosensitive functional nanocarriers, should be summarized not in detail, where all the mentioned methods are general and common methods.

So please rephrase and be short in this section.

-           Figure 1 and 7, should be redrawn for high quality and resolution

-           Updated reference for 2021 should be included

-           Please rewrite Current challenges, opportunities, and concluding remarks to be more valuable with the targets to the reader

-           Reference should be one system style, please add Doi: for ref. No 2,3, 56, 123,….

The full citation should be including for Ref. 128

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper fits the aims and scope of Polymers. I would recommend accepting the paper after modifications. However, the article has quite a lot of drawbacks, so,  I have some comments to the authors:

The format of references in the text does not belong to the journal guidelines.

All references have been written as individual numbers, for example [21], [22]., [22], [32], [33]., [1], [34]., [43], [52], [53]. and so on.

There is no space between the number reference and sentence words such as decross-linking[22].

The abbreviations of all mentioned compounds have been written in bold form!!!!

Unify all utilized abbreviations. In addition, the full name should be firstly name and followed by abbreviation. Then, the abbreviation should be written through the rest of the article review.

The article review should be provided with a separate paragraph about the functionalized Photosensitive Polymeric in nanofibers form.

Additionally, there are recently relevant work that should be cited through the article review. of these are:

  • Curdlan in fibers as carriers of tetracycline hydrochloride: Controlled release and antibacterial activity
  • Antibacterial carrageenan/cellulose-nanocrystal system loaded with silver nanoparticles, prepared via solid-state technique
  • Preparation of Biocompatible System Based on Electrospun CMC/PVA Nanofibres as Controlled Release Carrier of Diclofenac Sodium
  • Immobilization of anthocyanin extract from red-cabbage into electrospun polyvinyl alcohol nanofibers for colorimetric selective detection of ferric ions
  • Eco-friendly technology for preparation, characterization and promotion of honey bee propolis extract loaded cellulose acetate nanofibers in medical domains
  • Curdlan cryogels reinforced with cellulose nanofibrils for controlled release
  • Green electrospining of hydroxypropyl cellulose nanofibres for drug delivery applications
  • Preparation and Characterization of Nanofibrous Scaffolds of Ag/Vanadate Hydroxyapatite Encapsulated into Polycaprolactone: Morphology, Mechanical, and In Vitro Cells Adhesion
