Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In the manuscript entitled “Current challenges and perspectives for the catalytic pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass to high-value products”, the catalytic pyrolysis output was reviewed here. The authors discusses various factors affecting the value-added products from biomass over catalytic pyrolysis. This is an interesting and systematic work that is worthy of publishing in “Catalysts” journal. Therefore, I recommend acceptance of this manuscript after “Minor Revision”. Following comments are below.

1.      Similar work about the biomass pyrolysis has been reported [Fuel Processing Technology 2022, 229,  107175; Science of The Total Environment 2023, 857, 159155]. The authors should emphasize the differences between the present work and the previous work.

2.      Some of the following articles can be cited lignocellulosic biomass to high-value products. Ref: Catalysts 2022, 12, 767; Nanomaterials 2022, 12, 3414;; J. Compos. Sci. 2022, 6(10), 300; ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering 2020, 8, 14605; Energy Fuels 2020, 34, 12, 15557.

3.      The manuscript should be revised carefully to avoid grammatical and typo errors and to improve the language.

4.      The review total contains a single figure, Please add some more figures regarding the literature explanation

5.      Each section of results is summarized in table form.

Reviewer 2 Report

In this review paper, the authors summarized Current challenges and perspectives for the catalytic pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass to high-value products. In general terms, the information is well arranged and the presentation follows a logical path. The following comments are advised to be considered and rectified.

1. Please give a concise abstract.

2. Only one figure is not enough for this review paper.

3. The potential and challenges towards large-scale application should be discussed.

Reviewer 3 Report

Wang et al.  reviewed the “Current challenges and perspectives for the catalytic pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass to high-value products.” The content of the work is interesting, but the manuscript cannot be published in the present form due to the following issues:

1.      A lot of reviews are available on Catalytic pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass. For Eg. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1364032120305931?via%3Dihub , https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0378382019309117, etc. Therefore respond to the following quarries:-

a)      What is the main question addressed by the research?

b)      Do the author consider the topic original or relevant in the field, and if
so, why?

2.  In Table 1 the units have not been mentioned

3.      For a clear understanding schematic should be added to the topic “Lignocellulosic biomass” on Page 2, “The reactor design and process control” on Page 6, and “The types of catalysts” on Page 9.

4.      List the different materials in a tabular form in the topic “Other low-cost materials” on Page 13

5.      Author should add Figures on the topic “Diversity of reactor” on Page 6

6.      Author should highlight the conclusive points for the topics “2.2.2. The process parameters” on Page 7 and “The installation of catalysts” on Page 9

7.      Grammar and lots of typological error such as subscripts, superscripts, etc. is present in the present form of the manuscript. So need an extensive rectification
