Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This manuscript characterized the spatial and temporal patterns of negative air ions (NAI) over Zhejiang province, China, based on multivariate remote sensing datasets by using Random Forest model. In general, this manuscript is logically organized and would be of interest to the community and the readership of Remote Sensing. There are, however, some issues that need to be resolved before this manuscript is acceptable for publication. Additionally, some revisions should be made to improve the readability of this paper. Please, find my detailed comments below and revise them accordingly.

Comments:

1. Abstract, Line 18-20. What did the RF algorithm outperform better than?

2. Abstract, Line 22-23. The full name of SIF is Solar-Induced chlorophyll Fluorescence’ .

3. I suggest to add ‘multivariate remote sensing data or something like that as one of the key words.

4. The Introduction Section is fragmented and is not well organized. Please modify it to make it clearer.

5. The land use product should be introduced in detail in Materials and Methods Section.

6. The vector boundary of Zhejiang province is different in Figures 1, 8, 9, 11.

7. I may suggest to remove the air quality sites in Figure 1 to avoid confusion with NAI sites.

8. The multivariate remote sensing datasets have different spatial and temporal resolutions. How do you deal with them?

9. Figure 8. Its better to count the frequency of the grades of NAI.

10. Discussion, Line 445-449. The explanations of low NAI for the grassland and cropland dont make sense. As shown in Figure 1, the grassland and cropland are also surrounded by the forest land. As shown in Table 3, the DEM of grassland is close to that of forest, which is not distributed in the low elevation plain and basins.

11. Discussion, Line 461-462. Incomplete sentences.
