The article presents a prototype of satellite algorithms for computing the hyperspectral surface and in-water UV solar radiation for the Ocean Color Instrument, which is the primary sensor of the PACE mission. The authors extended the IOP models into the UV range, updated the surface irradiance algorithm for the hypespectral computations and calculated the underwater radiation field using Hydrolight. In addition, they train a neural network to reproduce the physics-based DNA damage penetration depth for operational data processing.

 

Comments:

  1. It should be explained how the Chl concentration distribution (Fig. 6b) was obtained under the clouds (Fig. 6d).
  2. The brevity of the neural network description contrasts with the rest of the article. It is recommended to expand this part.
  3. The neural network efficiency should be evaluated in comparison with Hydrolight.
  4. What is the reason for not using the ultraviolet absorption spectrum of pure water, measured with an integrating cavity?
