Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

To my opinion, the paper is clearly written, it present an interesting analysis and it does not requires substantial changes but just minor editing (i.e. storafes, at line 435)

Dear Review, The author's are grateful for revisions. The modifications in the final version was highlighted in green color (added/replaced text). In blue color was highlighted moved text.

About yourcomments:

  • Text was added reinforcing that WUE calculated as GPP/ET was used because there are more comparative sites than IWUE in the literature found.
  • More references and information about the sites were added to the paper.
  • The typing error was corrected, and the extreme limits found in Kuglitsch were added to the table.
  • More references like the ones cited and discussion on the subject were added to the article.

Reviewer 3 Report

Dear authors,

After carefully revised your manuscript entitled "Biophysical Controls Of Carbon Exchange And Water Use Efficiency In Different Tropical Biomes" I have found some minor questions that should be solved before considering the acceptance of this manuscript.

First of all, I would like to congratulate you for the written style and the readability of this work. On overall, introduction, M&M and Results are very well written and it is easy to understand the work and the discussed concepts.

However, some minor questions have been detected (please, find the attached file). Other point that I would suggest is the title modification because it is does not reflect the results provided in the manuscript. Maybe something like "WUE and CO2 estimations by eddy-covariance and remote sensing in different tropical biomes"

Additionally, I would include some discussion about the difficulties to estimate CO2 and WUE with satellites information, trying to support some alternatives to solve these problems.

Dear Review, The author's are grateful for revisions. The modifications in the final version was highlighted in green color (added/replaced text). In blue color was highlighted moved text.

About your comments:

  • The article title has been modified as suggested.
  • Added text and references discussing the suggested.
  • The number of authors is due to the fact that we have 4 experimental sites involved, therefore, 4 different groups with PI's, students, researchers who had theses or master's dissertations developed at the sites. All individual contributions were described in accordance with the journal's policy.
  • the number of sequential references has been reduced
