Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper used a variety of methods to analyze the differences of global carbon dioxide emissions, and explored the spatial differences of carbon dioxide emissions and its convergence. Overall, this topic is interesting and well organized.

I give my comments and suggestions as follows:

1. Please add one paragraph at the end of Introduction to describe the arrangement of chapters.

2. It seems like that there are overlaps of contents in Section 5 and Section 6. Therefore, I suggest the authors combine Section 5 with Conclusions, and delete the overlaps.

3. Research limitations and future prospects should be placed at the end of Conclusion.

4. Academic writing in this paper should be improved by native English speaker.

Reviewer 2 Report

1. This paper provides tones of information and data which could be very useful for country's government to deal with global warming and CO2 emission related issues.

2. A unique observation is detected from 1998 to 2001. By right, CO2 emission should be reduced due to global economic crisis. Further explanation might be helpful.

3. Due to global economy sanctions against China (Trade war), many giant manufacturers such as Samsung and Apples relocated their production plants to other countries such as India and Vietnam. It is interesting to know the impact of economy sanctions vs global CO2 emission.

4. Discussion should consider the impact of EV growth vs CO2 emission. As transport industries are one of the main contributors to the CO2 emission. With the rapid adjustment of EV and ICE vehicle ratio, CO2 emission would be affected too.

5. The Statistics for CO2 emissions are only covered until 2018.  If possible, please include the impact of COVID-19 on the global CO2 emission. Due to isolation, movement control, etc that leads to manufacturing disruption, the results on CO2 emission could be obvious.

6. Volume of CO2 emission is highly related to the nature of the business and social economy (enterprise level). However, due to limitation of the data acquisition, current results are accepted.

7. Its important to highlight the root cause of the emission of CO2.

8 . Similarity index of this manuscript is more than 30%. Author must reduce the similarity percentage of equal or lesser than 20%.

The second sentence in the abstract for me is too long - it would formulate into 2-3 separate one

Repeating "from the perspective of ..." in the abstract does not sound good - I recommend reformulating it

reconsider once again using "global" as a keyword

Sentence "According to the report "Health and Climate Change" released by the World Health Organization (WHO), global temperature changes between 2030 and 2050 are ex-pected to increase the number of deaths due to malaria, diarrhea and undernutrition by 250,000 each year." lacking reference at the end

"in the context of economic globalization."  - in the context of globalization

Instead of materials, I would say it is methods

To be honest I would really like to know why the authors decided on these particular measurements, what are their advantages in following research?

where is the source of data for figures 1,2 and others as well as tables?

I really like the policy recommendations

Reviewer 4 Report

It is clear that author/s possess a high level of knowledge about issues in the paper. This study deals with and interesting and relevant issue, which results may have significant implications on adjustments of future carbon emission manging policies.

The paper is well-written, while it still has some space for improvements. According to the nature of needed modifications, probably no additional review is needed.

The paper analyses carbon dioxide emissions in 92 countries from 1990 to 2018 by using the Dagum Gini coefficient.  Therefore, I will list some recommendations and suggestions for the authors:

-       Abstract – the novelty of the study should be highlighted.

-       Explanations should be added after an every chart.

-       The results should be compared with other studies.

To conclude, in my opinion, the article is suitable for publication, if the author/s will succeed in fulfilling the delineated recommendations for improvement.
