Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The paper presents the results of a transaction model based on the Nash-Stachelberg-Cooperative game for profit allocation of RES energy storage.

It is a well-documented and written manuscript about an interesting topic.

In my opinion, a few issues could be addressed:

·       A table with the acronyms and abbreviations used and their explanations before the Introduction would facilitate the reader.

·       How could you support the sustainability of the model focusing on its economic and social dimension without subsidies?

·       What are your recommendations for the RES market and storage, policymakers, energy producers, and consumers according to the analysis applied? Are there any limitations of your methodology approach, and why do you choose that instead of others?

Author Response

The paper presents the results of a transaction model based on the Nash-Stachelberg-Cooperative game for profit allocation of RES energy storage. It is a well-documented and written manuscript about an interesting topic. In my opinion, a few issues could be addressed.

Response: We would like to thank the reviewer for a careful review of this manuscript. We have improved our manuscript accordingly and provided the responses as follows.

  1. A table with the acronyms and abbreviations used and their explanations before the Introduction would facilitate the reader.

Response: Thank you for your insightful suggestion. We updated the position of the nomenclature table before the introduction. Corresponding modifications marked in red in the manuscript.

  1. How could you support the sustainability of the model focusing on its economic and social dimension without subsidies?

Response: The manuscript studies the trading models of multiple types of new energy storage in the electricity market environment without subsidies to ensure the profits of various types of energy storage operators and promote the sustainable development of energy storage.

The multiple types of energy storage systems provide feedback to energy storage users on the prices of various types of auxiliary services based on the operation and adjustment costs of each type of energy storage, in response to the needs of multiple users. A master-slave game is formed between multiple types of energy storage systems and energy storage users. Among them, Nash game is formed among energy storage users to balance the diverse needs of each user. Each energy storage entity forms a cooperative game to balance the interests of multiple energy storage entities. The proposed method can balance the individual interests of participants and maximize the overall social benefits. To achieve sustainable development of multiple types of energy storage through this approach

  1. What are your recommendations for the RES market and storage, policymakers, energy producers, and consumers according to the analysis applied? Are there any limitations of your methodology approach, and why do you choose that instead of others.

Response: Thank you for your valuable suggestion.

For the renewable energy market and policy makers, it is necessary to fully consider the heterogeneity characteristics of participants to incentivize multiple types players to widely participate in market transactions, and to develop incentive compatible trading mechanisms to achieve true quotes from market participants. Energy producers and consumers should fully utilize their own flexible resources to actively participate in multiple types of market transactions, while achieving energy sharing and improving their own profits.

The limitation of this article is that the proposed trading model is only applicable to transactions involving a single energy storage type in multi-level markets. Based on this manuscript, a fair and efficient trading mechanism for heterogeneous energy storage participation will be designed in the future to further promote the flexibility and sustainable development of China's new power system.

Dear Authors,

Thank you for the article and the opportunity to share my comments and suggestions with you!

At a general level, the article is highly interesting and has great potential due to the valuable insights shared with the readers.

These days, the transaction models and profit allocation methods of multiple energy storage oriented to versatile regulation demand represent a major interest to specialists. This is due to the fact that energy security represents a key point on the Agenda 2030 and is known as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

I believe that the Article that you prepared – namely, the the transaction model and profit allocation method of multiple energy storage oriented to versatile regulation demand, is very valuable to the readers.

(A.) General overview of the article and strong points:

Ø  General background of the study & Aim of the study: The authors have mentioned that, in their opinion, nurturing diversified market masters to enter the market to respond to the constraints from the insufficient flexible condition capacity of high proportion Renewable Energy System (RES), for pushing forward the reform process of China's electricity marketization.

Ø  Methods and Methodology used: What is more, the authors pointed out that, a day-ahead transaction model that combines multiple Energy Storage systems (ESS), including Hydrogen Storage System (HSS), Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES), as independent operating entities, is introduced in this paper. Furthermore, the authors argued that the model is a double-layer game model based on the Nash-Stackelberg-Cooperative(N-S-C) game, taking into account the total cost of regulation and the benefits of multiple entities. Also, the authors mentioned that multiple users in the upper layer form a Nash game with the goal of maximizing own benefits, while multiple ESSs in the lower layer form a Cooperative game with the goal of maximizing overall benefits, and the two layers form a Stackelberg game. Moreover, in the same line with the aforementioned aspects, the authors stressed the fact that an allocation mechanism considering the operational characteristics is designed to balance overall and individual rationality, and promote the sustainable development of multiple ESS. Also, the authors highlighted that the numerical simulation is carried out to the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed model based on the data from the renewable energy gathering area in northwest China.

Ø  Results of the study: In terms of the results of this current study, it ought to be mentioned that that the authors argue that the results show that this strategy breaks the flexibility limitation imposed by the lack of synchronous motors on the grid, and shortens the energy storage payback period and improves the energy storage utilization.

(B) Suggestions meant to improve your current manuscript:

Dear Authors I would like to highlight the fact that there are several suggestions that I am kindly making with reference to your interesting manuscript, in order to boost its readability as well as its capacity to get published and reach a greater audience in this matter.
