Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The article entitled "Sustainability of food supply chain of milk and dairy products: 2 Evidence from Serbia" presents an analysis of the supply chain and dairy products in Serbia. The manuscript is well written and presents important information that may have practical implications for milk and dairy products companies in Serbia. I have a few comments on the article:

The methodology could be better structured and it is important to describe the sources of information to perform the analysis.

I suggest that a discussion should be made in terms of the sustainability of the milk and dairy supply chain, not only in economic, but also in social and environmental terms.

Authors should review the author guidelines, particularly on citations in the main text.

1. The title includes two of, it would be better reduce one.

2. It did not need bold the text "technical 89 efficiency of agricultural farms", profitability is a measure of the success of every company. analysis of the competitiveness of milk and dairy products etc.

3. Figure 1. Evaluation of total, persistent and residual technical efficiency based on Kumbhakar. The curve is too simple, it could be improved.

4. Many tables and figures have shown in this paper, so which is the results about the sustainability in this paper?

5.  What is the evidence this paper presented?

6. The conclusions about the sustainability about the food supply chain are not provided. Only the data results.

7. The future extend about the paper should also added.

8. More discussion about the sustainability in this paper should be added with more clear and details.

Reviewer 3 Report

The manuscript "Sustainability of food supply chain of milk and dairy products: Evidence from Serbia" presents current problems in the dairy industry in Serbia. The manuscript is very well written. In addition to its scientific nature, it also contains specific conclusions and possible recommendations for farmers/people interested in the topic.

After reading, two questions occurred to me, which I would like to ask the Authors to present, based on the available literature:

1. What dairy products are currently very popular among consumers? What is the general consumer perception towards dairy products in Serbia. Because the economic situation largely depends on the consumer and what he currently needs.

2. Do farmers and producers have modern equipment for obtaining and analyzing milk, as well as in production? Do farmer producers increase financial expenditure on obtaining good quality raw milk and on the production of dairy products?

In order to increase market competitiveness and increase the export of dairy products to the European or continental market, solutions should be sought that will increase production efficiency or introduce new products to the market.
