Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript entitled “Research on hole collapse monitoring technology of coal seam gas extraction borehole” was proposed using the fiber optic grating collapse monitoring technology. The author's approach is convincing for developing coal seam gas extraction borehole using the fiber optic technology and it would be interesting in the respective field. Despite this, the author's approach is quite usual with all other research interests. Further, there are few comments to the author should need to answer are listed.

1.            The author needed to improve the introduction along with recent articles published in the respective field.

2.            The principle mechanism of the proposed system is not well defined, so the author needs to improve the mechanism such that the reader can understand it easily.

3.            The images are very detailed, but the labels for particular items are not systematically written.

4.            The author needed to compare the obtained results with previously published articles.

5.            The author needed to ensure stability for the proposed system.

6.            The author should check the submitted journal's reference format.

In summary, I recommend that the author make a major revision to the manuscript before taking further decisions about it.

Reviewer 2 Report

In this study, Cheng et al. propose a novel hole collapse monitoring technology based on fiber optic grating for situations where hole collapse is unknown. They conducted experiments using five different grating arrangements (0°, 45°, 90°, 135°, 180°) to simulate hole collapse scenarios. By analyzing the offset of the center wavelength, they established a correlation between this offset and the amount of collapsed coal as well as the extraction flow. Additionally, the researchers obtained distribution curves that depict the position and quality of hole collapse along the length of the hole. The paper presents significant findings and requires minor revisions before it can be considered suitable for publication.

1. In real conditions, the collapse of a coal seam often coincides with the presence of water or flammable gas. Therefore, it is important to investigate the practicality and usefulness of the fiber grating technology in such scenarios.

2. On pages 6-7, the authors mention Fig. (a) and Figure (b) without specifying the exact figures. It is crucial to thoroughly review the manuscript for any additional mistakes or errors to ensure the accuracy and clarity of the presented research. Specifically, the authors should provide the specific figure numbers and make any necessary corrections throughout the manuscript.

3. In Figure 6, it is important to explain the relationship between the weight of the coal sample, the flow rate, and the wavelength shift. This association helps in classifying the severity of hole collapse. Providing a detailed explanation of this relationship will enhance the understanding of the results presented in the figure.

Should be improved.

Reviewer 3 Report

Here is a revised version that addresses the mentioned issues:

1Abstract:

The abstract should be rewritten to summarize the main purpose, methods, results, and conclusions of the research, without including formulas. Focus on the key findings and patterns obtained from the study.

2Literature Review:

In the introduction, instead of listing all authors of the literature, highlight key studies related to the research topic. Discuss the major findings and shortcomings of these studies. Select relevant literature and describe important achievements in the field.

3Image Clarity:

Enhance the clarity of the pictures by ensuring that details in the images and diagrams are clearly visible. Authors should check the resolution of the pictures and consider redrawing or optimizing them to improve readability.

4References:

Carefully review the format and order of references to ensure compliance with the academic code used. References should be in a consistent format and include necessary information such as author, title, year of publication, journal or conference title, etc.

5Figure 8:

Provide a description of the conditions corresponding to each data point in Figure 8 so that readers can understand the background and source of the data more clearly. This information can be added to the diagram or legend.

6Repair Method after Hole Collapse:

Introduce the repair method after hole collapse in detail in the article. Describe the specific measures taken, the materials and techniques used, and evaluate the effectiveness of the repair. This will help readers better understand and apply the findings.

7Significance of the Study:

In the introduction, describe the significance of the study on the caving phenomenon of gas extraction boreholes. Highlight how the findings contribute to overcoming the caving phenomenon and emphasize the practical engineering applications.

8Overcoming Non-Uniformity of Coal Seam Occurrence:

Address the influence of the non-uniformity of coal seam occurrence on accurately supporting the extraction hole. Recommend major repairs and discuss potential strategies to overcome the challenges posed by the complicated and non-uniform occurrence conditions of the coal seam.

When revising the paper, ensure logical clarity, accurately present research content, and ensure accuracy in grammar, spelling, and punctuation. It is also advisable to seek feedback and suggestions from peers or professional editors before finalizing the changes.
