Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Optimizing spatial pattern is an important content to realize ecological civilization construction and sustainable development. Taking Yunnan Province as a study area, this study carried out research on ecological land use suitability, production land use suitability and living land use suitability combined with multi-source data, and demarcated ecological, production and living space. This research has important scientific and practical value.

  1. L145: The abbreviations in the figure need to be explained.
  2. L155:What is the scale of ‘Total water resources and water consumption data’ and ‘Average annual rainfall and evaporation’ data? Is it the county scale or the point scale?

Author Response

First of all, thank you very much for your careful review and positive comments! All of your comments are very important and really helpful for us to revise and improve our MS. According to your comments, we have made relevant changes (words in red) to the whole MS. The detailed revisions are listed below, responding to your comments point by point.

L145: The abbreviations in the figure need to be explained.

The abbreviations in the figure have been explained.

L155:What is the scale of ‘Total water resources and water consumption data’ and ‘Average annual rainfall and evaporation’ data? Is it the county scale or the point scale?

The scale of ‘Total water resources and water consumption data’ is the county scale. Each county has a value. And ‘Average annual rainfall and evaporation’ is the point scale. We use spatial interpolation tool to transform it into spatial data covering the entire area.

L167: how to unify the data dimension, please give a brief explanation.

Since some data types are not in the format that can be opened by ArcGIS, the data storage platforms are different, so the data types should be unified first. The "dimension" has been changed to "format" in the MS, and an example is given, such as converting kms format data into tiff format data.

L156: there’s some redundancy here, please delete unnecessary descriptions, such as ‘(Conversion Tools>To Raster>Feature to Raster)’.

According to the reviewer's request, the specific operating tool has been deleted.

L156: Data standardization generally refers to removing the unit effect of data and the final value between 0 and 1. So please consider the applicability of this title.

The data standardization in the MS refers to the standardization of data format and resolution. Therefore, "format and resolution " is added into the title.

L407: It is recommended to add place names to the diagram to make it easier for readers to understand.

According to the reviewer's request, place name abbreviations have been added into the map.

L475: It is suggested to add some references.

What is the difference between this paper and other studies, such as improved data accuracy or more reasonable selection of indicators, the author is suggested to explain.

We explained in the preface and put forward the research focus and highlights of the paper in L105. That is “We aim to contribute to the literature in three ways: (1) improve multifunctional land use conflict diagnosis, (2) improve optimization method of land space function zone in typical mountainous areas, and (3) refine the research scale. We focus on PLES subregions at the provincial scale (integrated by grid units within administrative units). The results are relevant to policymaking for the sustainable development of other mountainous areas, for the optimization of major functional areas, and for the formulation of land use control strategies.”

L475: Southwest China is an important ecological security barrier belt in China. It is suggested to add relevant discussion and references.

In the discussion part, we added the importance of Southwest China ecological security barrier belt. Yunnan as an important part of the Southwest ecological security barrier, its rich biodiversity provides an excellent habitat for animals and plants. At the same time, some related references have been added.

Thank you very much for giving us this suggestion. We have carefully checked the professional terms and modified the language.

Reviewer 2 Report

The paper presents a methodology not very original if referred to worldwide environmental planning disciplinary framework, but original and interesting concerning the specific context considered.

The paper is clearly structured and presented.
