Reviewer 2 Report

The issue of sustainable tourism development in the region defined by the authors in the title is a current and very important topic. The experience of many tourist destinations shows that focusing mainly on the economic benefits of tourism development in a given area (ignoring social and environmental costs) leads to disaster in the long run - and, as J. Krippendorf said, the paradoxical process of 'destroying tourism by tourism' follows [Krippendorf 1991, s. 308].

As the authors write in the introduction, the purpose of their research was to identify sustainable tourism indicators in the opinion of Baja California micro-entrepreneurs. In my opinion, this goal was not fully achieved in the course of work. The paper presents rather an analysis of competitiveness indicators in this region according to WTTC methodology. I therefore suggest reformulating the purpose of the work.

In addition, in the above context, it would be important to define what the region's competitiveness means in terms of the development of sustainable tourism - what are the factors of competitiveness understood in this way? To better illustrate the conditions for the development of sustainable tourism, it would be valuable to illustrate these relationships in the form of a sustainable tourism model in the Baja California region.

In my opinion, it is important that the source is placed under the figures and tables - i.e. where they come from, given in the figure or in the table, data or content.

Chapter numbering is incorrect - chapter 4 is missing.

Author Response

Good morning, dear reviewer.

I have reviewed your comments, which have been adjusted to the requested evaluation criteria:

The observation of the social and environmental cost was considered, as well as the suggested reference.

Paragraph 99, which presents the objective of the study, was adapted to the suggested observations. You can now find it in paragraph 129.

The meaning of regional competitiveness in terms of sustainable tourism development was considered in paragraph 46.

Similarly, it is presented in Figure 2 as the first model of sustainable tourism in the region of Baja California; based on national and regional development plans. Source: Planning Committee for the Development of the State of Baja California (2014).

The numbering of the chapters has also been corrected.

The background was expanded as suggested. From paragraph 58 to 72.

The conclusions were reinforced based on the results.

Please see the attachment.

Thanks for your time, I am waiting for directions.
