Dear Colleagues,
Mining water is a kind of admixture, containing various impurities where components interact with each other. Although the content of some impurities may not be so high, the mechanisms of their mutual interaction are not fully understood and are difficult to be predicted. That is why mine drainage is identified as a serious environmental issue, derived from mining activity, which may cause the contamination of soil and water resources and cause extensive damage to aquatic ecosystems. However, it should be emphasised that mining water could be a valuable secondary source of critical industrial raw materials (such as lithium and REE), which is extremely important in the circular economy .
The aim of the Special Issue is to bring together the most advanced knowledge about environmental pollution caused by mining water. In this context, particular attention will be paid to the latest studies dealing with the impact of underground water discharge onto the surface from coal mines, different techniques used in industrial wastewater treatment, strategies for obtaining desirable components from mining waters and many other challenges faced by scientists handling the above-mentioned water problems.
