Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Groundwater is a viable pillar of useable water resources for humans. Even medieval civilizations recognized the criticality of groundwater quality to survival; they closed wells when groundwater was contaminated and moved to find healthy water. People experiencing such moves in today’s world are classified as refugees, and their movement likely results in water disputes. Furthermore, human interference with groundwater has increased with technological advancement. As the toxicity of chemicals and drilling depths have increased, groundwater and, consequently, humans have become more vulnerable.

This Special Issue, “Groundwater Pollution Management and Health Risks”, aims to study possible groundwater pollution management methods to avoid the associated health risks and water insecurity. Water serves as an international and interdisciplinary platform in all water-related areas. This Special Issue focuses on groundwater management, which requires different approaches, skills, technologies, and perspectives from other visible water resources. The focus of this Special Issue is timely because groundwater is facing serious challenges, including depletion due to excessive human interference and climate change. We welcome original research articles delivering comprehensive and thorough analyses and new findings on the history and the future of groundwater pollution management and its associated health risks that contribute to sustainable groundwater use.

The scope of the Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Groundwater pollution routes and associated waterborne health risksc;
  • Groundwater pollution management policies, protocols, and regulations to eliminate associated health risks;
  • Effects of water scarcity on groundwater pollution and associated health risks;
  • Effects of climate change, sociodemographic changes, and other global trends on local groundwater pollution management and associated health risks;
  • Advancement in quality-monitoring system technologies and other related fields;
  • Case studies on groundwater pollution management and associated health risks, including water disputes.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Water is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
