Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The hallmarks of cancer encompass biological and enabling capabilities acquired during tumor development, offering insights into the multifaceted nature of neoplastic diseases and their interactions within the tumor microenvironment. Their recognition could expand the therapeutic arsenal in our hands and improve cancer patient outcomes. The in-depth knowledge of these hallmarks and their related pathways/targets would offer to medicinal chemists new underexplored opportunities in avoiding the rise of resistance mechanisms and improving early detection, screening, treatment, and quality of life for cancer patients. This translational approach must also be driven by the correct evaluation of the neoplastic role of a biological target depending on the genetic/metabolic context, immunity system and efficiency, age, and inflammation.

This Special Issue is devoted to drug discovery efforts focusing on new compounds able to counteract or modulate enzymes, protein, efflux pumps and pathways related to the hallmarks of cancer. Old compounds repurposed for this aim or chemical entities used as probes to open up new scenarios in this field will be of interest for the scientific community.

Research and review articles dealing with this topic and providing experiments in vitro and/or in vivo will be considered. In silico approaches must be confirmed using experimental data. The biological activity of complex natural extracts without a proper chemical characterization or the evaluation of the most representative active compounds will not be considered.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
