Dear Colleagues,
Traditionally, pharmaceutical analysis referred to the separation, purification, identification, and quantification of the given compound (active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical excipients) in pharmaceutical drug products. Today, advanced techniques are used in all stages of the drug cycle, from drug discovery for structure elucidation to in-process control and the finished drug control for batch certification, before release on the market. Also, modern pharmaceutical analysis includes technical procedures for the pharmaceutical characterization of the intermediate product or finished dosage forms, with a focus on in vitro drug release. The concept of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) has promoted the development of innovative, high-throughput technologies based on chemometrics for at-line, in-line, or on-line monitoring of the manufacturing process. In pharmaceutical development, an important role is played by the application of advanced solid-state analysis in the pre-formulation stage.
This Special Issue will cover aspects regarding current advances in analytical techniques or procedures for characterization and analysis used in pharmaceuticals. We sincerely invite researchers to contribute high-quality original research or review articles on topics of pharmaceutical analysis.
