Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

One of the most difficult challenges facing sustainable development of aquaculture is controlling diseases and managing health. The importance of biosecurity approaches to prevent, control and eradicate such diseases and maintain good health has become more evident in the recent years. As previous decades were marked with the rapid expansion of aquaculture throughout the world, we also witnessed multiple global disease outbreaks causing catastrophic impacts on aquaculture producers, industries, and countries.

Advances in biosecurity science and understanding about what measures can be practically and efficiently implemented, are the focused topic of this special issue. Addressing biosecurity in more detail is likely to provide practical and internationally acceptable procedures to allow aquaculture to grow, with fewer impairments resulting from infectious disease outbreaks. The guest editor’s intention with this Special Issue is to raise the stakeholder attention on aquatic biosecurity as the key process in disease prevention, control and eradication in aquaculture, that will ultimately allow farms and countries improve aquaculture sustainability and to be considered free of disease.
