Dear Colleagues,

The use of electronic devices such as TVs, computers, mobile phones, and radios is inevitable in our current society. Several studies have demonstrated that different electronic instruments emit electromagnetic (EM) radiation while in operation. It is important to note that mutual interference among different electronic devices can disturb their performance, and can cause further forms of electrostatic charges. This may cause these devices to explode. Some recent studies also have claimed that the transmission of EM waves can be harmful to the human body.

In recent years, applications of different electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding membranes have been more pronounced. The EMI shielding efficiency of membranes depends on their physical nature, the fiber type, the type of polymer and their chemical structure. Several research studies have shown that excellent conductive fibrous membranes and composites have tremendous effects on the EMI shielding efficiency.

The investigation of the role of fibrous-based membranes and composites in producing EMI shielding materials is thus important for introducing cost-effective, simple, and convenient strategies that can be implemented in electronic devices. In this Special Issue, I welcome original research papers as well as reviews on producing fibrous membranes and composites for EMI shielding applications. The goal is to gather contributions on various aspects related to the preparation, analyses, and uses of EMI shielding, as well as the potential risk to humans.

I hope that this Special Issue will provide the scientific community with a thorough overview of the current research on fibrous membranes and composites as very promising materials with EMI shielding abilities for civil and industrial applications.

Fibers is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
