Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue aims to explore the cutting-edge advancements in car design, focusing on the integration of new materials and innovative manufacturing technologies, AI-driven methods, and human–machine interaction trends. The rapid evolution of automotive technology, driven by the need for sustainability, efficiency, and enhanced user experience, calls for a comprehensive examination of the latest design trends, methodologies, and their implications for the future of mobility.

Topics of Interest

  • Aerodynamic design and optimization: advanced computational methods and AI-driven simulations to enhance vehicle aerodynamics, reduce drag, and improve fuel efficiency.
  • Autonomous and connected vehicle technologies: The design challenges of ensuring safety, reliability, and user trust in autonomous vehicles. This also considers the impact of AI and machine learning on the development of autonomous driving systems.
  • Challenges of AI implementation: how AI and machine learning are used to streamline the design process, from conceptualization to virtual testing, reducing development time and costs while increasing safety and performance.
  • Emerging technologies: exploration of innovative technologies such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) in the design process, blockchain for secure vehicle-to-vehicle communication, and the use of nanotechnology for advanced coatings and materials.

Importance and Objectives

The objective of this Special Issue is to provide a platform for researchers, engineers, and designers to share their latest findings, innovations, and perspectives on car design. It aims to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and highlight the role of design in addressing the challenges and opportunities in the automotive industry, particularly in the context of environmental sustainability and technological advancement.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Eng is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
