Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly transforming various aspects of everyday life, including the agriculture and farming industry. Sustainable agriculture has been gaining in popularity as people become more interested in the environmental impacts of their food choices. As the world's population continues to grow, so does the need for sustainable and efficient agricultural practices. IoT has the potential to revolutionize sustainable agriculture by providing the means to collect data and analyze it in real-time. IoT-enabled technologies can help farmers reduce the environmental impact of their operations, improve the efficiency and productivity of their operations, and gain valuable insights into their operations. The aim of this Special Issue is to collect research that focuses on the many ways that IoT can be used to improve sustainable farm practices. These can include the use of IoT-enabled sensors to monitor environmental conditions, the application of robotic technologies to automate labour intensive tasks, the development of precision agriculture to minimize the use of resources, the use of blockchain technology to track the origin of food products, use of IoT to reduce food waste, improve crop yields, and increase the efficiency and accuracy of farm management. The issue will also include the use of IoT techniques and technologies in the development of smart farming solutions such as automated irrigation, smart farming infrastructures, autonomous robotics, enhanced crop selection and management, automated data collection and decision-making as well as the development of long-range intelligent networks and systems. Furthermore, the issue will emphasize the crucial role of collecting and analyzing datasets for smart agriculture practices, such as utilizing IoT-enabled sensors to monitor and gather data on environmental conditions, crop growth, and yield. The analysis of this data can provide valuable insights into crop health, optimal resource utilization, and areas where improvements can be made to reduce the environmental impact and increase efficiency. Finally, the Special Issue will consider the impact of IoT on the economic and social aspects of farming and agriculture.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
