Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Smart data analytics and cloud computing have become increasingly crucial aspects of data-driven disciplines, including (but not limited to) biosciences, digital health, predictive analysis, smart cities, Industry 4.0 and all data-driven science and engineering fields. Smart data analytics aims to assess and extract actionable information from large unstructured data, which typically exhibit significant variety and complexity. However, if such data are harnessed, industrial and research organisations are able to make more informed decisions by uncovering hidden patterns, correlations, data trends, and individual opinions and preferences.

The ability to identify, extract and assess data has become an essential asset as data are continuously generated, which can contain essential information on significant issues, such as digital health, cybersecurity, biosciences, market analysis, physics and engineering and Industry 4.0.

Artificial intelligence techniques have been widely used to address the above challenges, including heuristics, machine learning, data and text mining, natural language processing, deep learning, support vector machines, and distributed and parallel learning, to name but a few. Furthermore, new algorithms and suitable theoretical frameworks are required to address the complexity associated with the above techniques and methods, and in particular to accurately analyse data in real time and provide predictive capabilities that can contribute to the identification of data trends, concepts and mutual relationships.

The aim of this Special Issue is to present timely and relevant state-of-the-art topics related to smart big data and cloud computing, which can be used to identify actionable information from large and unstructured data. More specifically, novel research on both theoretical and applied approaches and aspects is suitable for this Special Issue. Furthermore, authors proposing articles addressing digital health, Industry 4.0, cybersecurity and engineering are very welcome to submit their work to this Special Issue.

Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Theory and applications of smart data analytics and cloud computing
  • Mathematical and statistical foundations for smart data analytics and cloud computing
  • Applications of smart data analytics and cloud computing, such as
    • Digital health
    • Engineering and Industry 4.0
    • Biomedical sciences
    • Deep learning and AI
    • Natural language processing
    • Predictive analytics

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
