Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues, 

As artificial intelligence becomes more popular, neuroscience, the study of all nervous systems, including the brain, is being pioneered as the basis of mimicking human 'intelligence'. Neuroscience focuses on uncovering how we perceive and experience our external environment and how we interact with others. In addition, modern neuroscience research and research activities have been expanded into several major fields according to the subject and scope of experiments, such as neurogenetics, neurology as well as neuroscience in cellular, cognition, emotion, and behavior. Traditionally, electrophysiological methods have mainly been used in neurophysiological studies, but recently, with the development of imaging technology, it has become possible to understand the physiological functions of synapses under a microscope. Thus, it is expected that this will be helpful in the development of neuroscience research in the future, as it is possible to observe the internal structure and functions of living tissue, something that was difficult to observe with existing methods, with a great deal of preciseness. Therefore, the purpose of this Special Issue is to highlight recent progress and trends in the use of optical methods and imaging techniques such as optogenetics, multiphoton imaging, and functional near-infrared spectroscopy when applied to various clinical practices in neurology and neurosurgery as well as in basic neuroscience research.

Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
