Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In the rapidly evolving domain of medical diagnostics and research, artificial intelligence (AI) stands out as a pivotal catalyst, especially within biomedical image and signal processing. The advent and subsequent rise of machine learning and deep learning methodologies have heralded a new era, facilitating the creation of sophisticated AI-driven image processing systems specifically designed for medical applications. These systems, renowned for their reproducibility and adaptability, have showcased an exceptional ability to tackle unprecedented challenges and adjust to shifting paradigms.

However, as AI continues to permeate the medical field, the imperatives of Explainable AI (XAI) and Trustworthy AI have become increasingly salient. The ability to interpret and understand AI decisions, especially in a clinical context, is paramount. This Special Issue not only delves into the state-of-the-art machine and deep learning techniques in medical image processing but also underscores the importance of transparency, trustworthiness, and ethical considerations in AI-driven medical applications.

We warmly invite submissions of original research articles and in-depth reviews that explore the following focal areas:

  • Advanced image processing techniques in biomedicine;
  • Image localization and its clinical implications;
  • Innovations in object detection and tracking in medical imaging;
  • Breakthroughs in image segmentation leveraging deep learning;
  • The role of deep learning in image registration;
  • AI-driven diagnostic systems: current practices and future prospects;
  • Predictive systems in healthcare: harnessing AI for proactive interventions;
  • The significance of explainable AI in medical imaging;
  • Trustworthy AI: building confidence in AI-driven medical decisions;
  • Ethical considerations and challenges in medical AI.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
