Dear Colleagues,
Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. If not recognized and managed promptly, it can deteriorate rapidly, leading to shock and death. It is a global emergency worsened by the spread of multi-resistant bacteria. Furthermore, the extension of life expectancy has exponentially increased the number of patients with multi-morbidity and fragility, particularly those susceptible to sepsis. Although research has clarified many aspects of the disorder, much remains to be understood.
This Special Issue aims to provide new insights into several key points, including the following:
(a) Prevention programs including hygiene measures and vaccination;
(b) New biomarkers or other tools to improve diagnosis;
(c) Treatment strategies, including new antimicrobial therapies, the role of immunomodulators and new drugs that can counteract endothelial dysfunction and alterations to macro- and micro-circulation, which are typical of sepsis.

Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
