Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Additive manufacturing (AM) has been growing rapidly in recent years to overcome the difficulties related to traditional manufacturing processes via allowing the tool-free near-net shape production of parts directly from three-dimensional (3D) model data. This manufacturing technique has provided exceptional possibilities to industries to manufacture parts with complex freeform geometries, which is not feasibly attainable when employing conventional processes. Basically, AM processes are capable of controlling the microstructure and the resulting properties through either modifying the powder or the process conditions.

The main objective of this Special Issue is to address recent advances in enhancing the knowledge of novel AM techniques for the fabrication of metallic alloys and composites. Material–process–microstructure–property relationships will be established in order to design the mechanical properties of metallic alloys and composites. Thus, we invite scientists and researchers to contribute to this Special Issue of Coatings entitled “Novel Additive Manufacturing of Alloys and Metallic Composites”, which focuses on the processing technique, mechanical properties, welding, fatigue properties, and microstructural evolution of metallic alloys and composites.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Novel AM techniques for metallic alloys and composites;
  • Joining and welding of metallic alloys and composites fabricated by AM;
  • Microstructural evolution during the AM of metallic alloys and composites;
  • Mechanical properties of additively manufactured components under monotonic and cyclic loading;
  • Modeling of AM for metallic alloys and composites;
  • Modeling of microstructural evolution during AM.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
