Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a Special Issue on the "Emerging Role of Exosomes in Comorbidity-Associated Cancer Progression" in the journal Cancers. This Special Issue aims to shed light on the intriguing interplay between comorbidities and cancer progression, with a specific focus on the role of exosomes as mediators.

Comorbidities, defined as the coexistence of chronic diseases or disorders alongside cancer, significantly impact cancer diagnosis, tumor biology, metastasis, and treatment decisions. However, the intricate mechanisms underlying these associations remain largely unknown. Recent research has highlighted the importance of exosomes, membrane-derived vesicles involved in intercellular communication, in various disease contexts.

This Special Issue seeks to advance our understanding of the emerging role of exosomes in the progression of cancer associated with comorbidities. We invite original research papers, reviews, and perspectives that explore the influence of exosomes on cancer development and metastasis in the presence of comorbidities such as obesity, diabetes, stress, and dysbiosis.

Potential topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Exosomal cargo and its influence on tumor progression in comorbidity-associated cancers;
  • Exosomal communication in the tumor microenvironment in the presence of comorbid conditions;
  • Exosomes as diagnostic biomarkers for comorbidity-associated cancers;
  • Exosomal therapies targeting cancer progression in the presence of comorbidities;
  • Mechanisms of exosomal regulation in the context of comorbidity-associated cancers.

We invite researchers from diverse disciplines to contribute their insights to this Special Issue. Submissions should comply with the journal's guidelines and will undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure scientific rigor and quality. We encourage you to share your innovative research findings, reviews, and perspectives on the emerging role of exosomes in comorbidity-associated cancer progression. By contributing to this Special Issue, you will help advance our knowledge and understanding of the complex interactions between comorbidities and cancer, paving the way for potential therapeutic interventions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
