Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Building on the success of the first edition of this Special Issue, this second edition of Cancers readdresses the topic of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), the most common type of malignancy of the oral cavity. In addition, it aims to highlight aspects of recent contributions to this special field.

Precise diagnosis, risk-based and personalized treatment, and adequate follow-up are all critical elements in the management of oral cancer patients which prevent drawbacks in treatment, the development of locoregional recurrence, and cancer-related death.

Contributions to this Special Issue are expected to provide a comprehensive, up-to-date overview of the current knowledge of this disease, including the clinical manifestation, diagnosis, and histopathologic features of OSCC, and to provide a basis for augmenting the current guidelines for its multimodal treatment strategies. The editors are particularly interested in review articles that summarize recent breakthroughs in the diagnosis and treatment of OSCC. We also encourage submissions of original articles that cover novel aspects of the following topics:

  1. Epidemiology, current classification, and staging of OSCC.
  2. Imaging of OSCC.
  3. Histopathology of OSCC and related histologic and molecular biologic risk factors.
  4. Surgical treatment of OSCC.
  5. Reconstruction options for oral soft and hard tissue.
  6. Radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immune therapy.
  7. Postoperative care and supportive treatment of patients with OSCC.

Thus, a defining feature of this Special Issue is the breadth and diversity of topics represented, established with the aim of enhancing our understanding of oral squamous cell carcinoma and the management of this disease.
