Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the Special Issue “The Strength, Strain and Durability of Concrete: Evaluating the Performance of Different Mix Designs”, in partnership with the journal Buildings, at Henan Polytechnic University, China, Dalian University of Technology, China and Zhejiang University, China.

Academics, scholars, engineers, young scientists and students will meet and exchange ideas and views at this event, which will provide an exceptional opportunity to greet old acquaintances, forge new connections, network, and facilitate partnerships across national and international disciplinary borders.

“Building Materials and Repair and Renovation” is a popular Section of the journal “Buildings”, featuring a large number of published articles. It collects and spreads valuable scientific research on innovative, smart, and eco-friendly building materials, addressing the general sustainability of buildings and infrastructure systems. This section also promotes and disseminates materials, tools, and techniques related to the repair and rehabilitation of older structures and building components in an eco-friendly manner. Multidisciplinary research and cross-cutting techniques are encouraged with the support of a broad range of methodological and technical approaches, such as advanced experimental tests, numerical methods, and artificial intelligence.

Buildings' unique global platform facilitates discussion focusing on specific subject areas, with the goal of generating new knowledge, technology and application, forging and expanding new international, intercultural and interdisciplinary research networks and partnerships. This Special Issue will offer a remarkable opportunity for sharing research and best practices within the engineering community.

Potential topics may include structural engineering, construction engineering, hydraulic engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering and transdisciplinary engineering, including the influence of the concrete matrix and their mix designs on these structures. These concretes include high-strength concrete (HSC), ultra-HSC (UHSC), high-performance concrete (HPC), ultra-HPC (UHPC), normal weight concrete (NEW), recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), lightweight concrete (LWC), ultra-LWC (ULWC), eco-friendly concrete (EFC), geopolymeric concrete (GPC) and fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC).

Original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • The mechanical properties of concrete based on mix ratio change, including strength, strain, damage, fracture, constitutive relation, etc.
  • The physical properties and durability of concrete based on mix ratio change, including thermal performance, durability, micro-structure, microcosmic and micro-pores, etc.
  • Numerical simulations based on physical properties and mechanical properties, including three-dimensional feeding models, static and dynamic numerical simulation, etc.
